Time Period: |

Persona Bio: |
|
Deianeira is the daughter of Don Alajandro Eustachius Rodríguez de la Toledo (descendant of Don Rodrigo) and Doña Constance Teresa Aragonés de Madrid. For many years, Alajandro and Constance hoped to be graced with a child—but to no avail. Then, in their seventh year, on the holy feast day of St. Carmen (July 16), Constansa bore a daughter to the Rodríguez family line. She was given the name Deianeira—the feminine aspect of Deunoro—meaning “All Saints” and Christened with the name of her patron saint, Carmen. This was a time of major changes in Spain with explorers traveling to new worlds and settlements being founded. Deianeira’s father (an accomplished mariner) was sent to lead one such expedition, a journey from which he never returned—and an unexplained disappearance for which only the sea knows the unspoken truths. For years, Deianeira pined for her father and vowed someday to find him. Finally, her family despairing of ever dissuading her from her quest, acquiesced—by giving her a “caravel” and crew—for upon, she set sail. |
